Jazz Singing Workshop – Sense of Sound (10am – 12.30pm)
Admission: £10 (£7 concessions) advance registration required – see details below
The land of Jazz is vast.
Perri Alleyne-Hughes invites you to explore a little of that terrain with her, in a workshop on jazz-singing.
A highly accomplished singer/songwriter, teacher and choral arranger, Perri is also a Musical Director for the Liverpool-based a cappella ensemble, Sense of Sound Singers. She also co-writes and sings in the Perri and Neil Quartet whose style rolls up jazz with streaks of folk, classical and rock. Her voice, which is featured in Danny Boyle’s movie, 28 Days Later, has been described as a “wonderful smoky jazz contralto” and she has also been deemed “…a charismatic performer with a superb sense of pitch and diction…”
Perri’s workshops are engaging, informative, fun and highly interactive. She will look at jazz styles, harmony and rhythmic concepts; she will encourage you to explore your improvisational skills and she will teach you some repertoire. There will also be a brief look at the significant contributions of key singers in blues and jazz who helped to shape the course of jazz music.
This workshop will be best suited to those who have at least a basic knowledge of singing and music theory.
Come and sing your heart out…
