Sense of Sound, Liverpool are holding auditions in February for male singers to join our choir. We would partcularly like to find more basses. It is desirable, although not essential that you can read music and are an experienced performer. Not everybody in our choir reads music but in order to satisfy our increasing creative demands it would be beneficial if you can.
Our repertoire is extremely broad ranging from pop/soul, jazz, reggae right through to classical and everything in between so confidence around improvisation is also really important.
Our weekly rehearsals take place at The Bluecoat in Liverpool city centre every Monday evening from 6pm-9pm and we perform a variety of concerts and theatrical shows throughout the year. Two of last year’s highlights were Migration Music at Liverpool’s Everyman theatre which was our commissioned new work as part of Liverpool International Music Festival and 2 performances as the featured choir for Paco Pena at Liverpool Metropolitan cathedral and Bridgewater Hall. In addition we perform for corporate events and collaborative concerts in a wide range of venues nationally.
If you would like to audition, the 2 staged audition process will take place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February 2015 at The Bluecoat in Liverpool city centre.
The first stage on Saturday 21st February will be an individual audition which will last approximately 5 minute (please prepare one a cappella song in any style of your own choice). There will also be a short aural test. If you successfully complete stage 1 you will then be invited to take part in stage 2 the following day on Sunday 22nd February which will be a group audition. In stage 2 we will gauge your ability to harmonise, improvise, work effectively in a team and blend well vocally. At this stage, you will also be invited to learn some repertoire alongside current Sense of Sound Singers choir members. The timing of this stage of the audition is to be confirmed.
